The two coins that the widow gave in Luke's Gospel represent, for me, the love of God and love of neighbor. The widow gave freely and with the wisdom to see that there is nothing on this earth that can truly fulfill. And that being with Christ in Eternal Life is our fulfillment ... and getting there means letting go of self and the attachments to the things of this world that don't help us to better serve God or His people.
This is one of my favorite stories in the Gospel because of the simple message of faith and love. The widow just gets it. Love above all things. Materials things don't bring lasting happiness. Trust in God. Give generously and you will be rewarded in heaven.
Lord grant me a spirit of unfailing generosity as I move, think and act today. Amen.
